Hashithe Japanese bridge puzzle

Hashiwokakero is a logic puzzle. Connect numbered islands with straight bridges until every island has as many bridges as its number and all islands form one network.

Today's puzzle is on the board. Tap between two islands to build a bridge. Finish it and the next puzzle is one tap away.

Free, no ads, and no account. Also on iOS and Android.

How to play

Rules

  1. Rule 1

Bridges run straight, horizontally or vertically, between two islands.

  2. Rule 2

At most two bridges join the same pair of islands.

  3. Rule 3

Bridges never cross each other and never pass over an island.

  4. Rule 4

Each number is the count of bridge ends at that island.

  5. Rule 5

When you are done, every island must belong to one network.

Controls

  • Tap

Tap between two islands: once for a single bridge, twice for a double, a third time to remove it.

  • Swipe

Or swipe from one island to the next. Both work on desktop and phone, and Settings can limit it to one.

  • Green means done

An island turns green when it has the right number of bridges.

  • Hints

A hint points at a wrong or missing bridge. It takes ten seconds. The solver can also finish the board for you.

Where to start

An island with one neighbour is forced. So is a 3 with two neighbours, a 5 with three, or a 7 with four.

Questions

Is Hashi free to play?

Yes. Every puzzle is free, with no ads and no account. A username is optional and only shows on the leaderboard.

What does Hashiwokakero mean?

It is Japanese for “build bridges”. The puzzle was popularised by the publisher Nikoli and is also called Hashi, Bridges or Ai-Ki-Ai.

Does every puzzle have exactly one solution?

Yes. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, verified when it is generated.

Do I need the tutorial first?

No. The rules fit in five lines and the board is ready. The tutorial takes about a minute if you would rather be shown.

How big do puzzles get?

Up to 60×60 in custom mode. The campaign goes up to 35×35.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The board fits the screen, and you can tap or swipe. There are also apps for iOS and Android.

Can I play offline?

Yes. Only the daily puzzle and the leaderboard need a connection.

Will I lose my progress?

Progress is stored on the device you play on. Settings has Export, which saves a backup file, and Import, which restores it.

Does what I play here carry over?

Yes. The board on this page and the full game share the same storage, so a puzzle solved here counts.
